What’s at stake in the ongoing battle for the beginning? Worship. Period.
From cover to cover, the Bible asserts and affirms the Genesis account to exalt God for who He really is—the Creator. We should reflect that pattern too. In fact, that’s not an option. As Sovereign Creator, God demands to be worshiped.
So if God is Creator, that means He exercises authority over all His subjects, particularly human beings made in His image. That’s a truth that has been the confidence of God’s people throughout the ages. On the other hand, those who want to preserve their sense of personal autonomy hate the Creator’s authority. They believe it’s in their best interest to do away with the doctrine of creation.
God not only created the world, He presides over that world as sovereign ruler. Those who ignore or disobey His rule will face Him one day, not only as Creator, but also as Judge. John MacArthur explains . . .
